Solid
State Transformer (SST), also known as a power electronic transformer
or intelligent universal transformer, is a power device that integrates
high-frequency electromagnetic coupling with advanced power electronic
conversion technologies. Building on the foundation of traditional
high-frequency transformers, it combines functions such as power quality
regulation, electrical isolation, voltage transformation, and reactive
power compensation. It not only effectively improves the power quality
of the grid but also provides an intelligent interface for the
integration of renewable energy.

Compared to conventional transformers, solid-state transformers offer the following significant advantages:
- Environmentally friendly and compact, free from transformer oil, with minimal pollution;
- Stable primary and secondary voltages, unaffected by load switching;
- High sinusoidal quality of input and output waveforms, low harmonic distortion rate, and flexible adjustable power factor;
- Capable of rapidly interrupting fault currents, simplifying relay protection configuration;
- Supports intelligent control and networked communication, facilitating grid intelligence and self-healing functions.
To
meet market demands, BOULDER began collaborating with customers in
2020 to develop and successfully launch a core magnetic component for
solid-state transformer systems—the 50-100 kW high-power,
high-frequency, high-voltage transformer series.

This transformer series features the following technical characteristics:
- Operating voltage of 750-1200V (with potential for further increase), operating current ranging from 60-150A;
- Operating frequency of approximately 50 kHz, suitable for high-power application scenarios;
- Key
windings fully epoxy resin potting technology, with primary and
secondary isolation withstand voltage exceeding 40,000 volts;
- Excellent performance under high temperature and humidity conditions, ensuring long-term stable operation in harsh environments.
During
the product development process, comprehensive simulation analysis was
employed, covering key aspects such as electromagnetic design,
structural mechanics, and heat conduction, combined with reliability
testing to ensure product performance and quality meet high standards.
Looking
ahead, BOULDER will continue to closely follow market and customer
demands, continuously optimizing and upgrading product parameters, and
commit to providing higher-quality, more reliable transformer solutions
for various application scenarios.
